Warframe studio’s Soulframe drops its invites: anyone on PC can now play

Soulframe no longer needs an invitation. Digital Extremes, the studio behind Warframe, has opened its fantasy action RPG’s early development build, called Preludes, to anyone on PC who signs up at soulframe.com and installs the launcher.
That ends a long closed stretch. The game had been invite-only for more than two years while its community tested it, and the studio has promised no progression wipes from here on. Soulframe is an open world built for parties of up to 4 players, and Steam lists it as free to play.
The Soulframe Preludes community has played an essential role in getting us to a place where we can open up our new fantasy adventure to a wider audience of PC players.

New players land in the middle of Preludes 17, Verse of the Veilands. The update covers the island of Midrath in blight: in infected regions resources run thin, animals hide and the lakes go empty until players track down and destroy the Ode’s Syphon machines with help from local factions.

The reward is personal. Once the Syphons fall in 2 regions, players unlock a treat that turns a fully trained wolf pup into a rideable Omen Wolf. The patch also brings 6 weapons, 3 armour sets and 6 runes, a first look at the underground Mines of Borro, and a seasonal Bita’s Eve event that runs until December 4.

A pet you raise and then ride into battle is a strong hook for a game still in alpha. What Digital Extremes hasn’t said is when Soulframe leaves Preludes or whether it is coming to consoles; for now its Steam page lists Windows only.
