Privacy Policy

Virylo is a news site. We do not have reader accounts, comments or paid plans, so we collect very little about you. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Who is responsible
Vladyslav Hulin, Ukraine, the publisher of Virylo, is the controller of your data. Contact: [email protected].
What we collect
Technical logs. When you open a page, our server and our network provider Cloudflare receive your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time. We use these logs to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix errors. Server logs are kept for no more than 30 days. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Broken links. When someone opens an address on our site that does not exist, we record that address, the page the visitor came from (referrer) and the browser type, without the IP address. We use this only to find and fix broken links. We keep no more than 100 such entries. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
Visit statistics. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not track you across sites. We also count how many times each story is read, to show “Popular” and “Top today”. That counter stores a number per story and nothing about you. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
Settings on your device. Your theme choice (light or dark), menu state, saved stories and followed topics are stored in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device and we cannot see them. You can delete them by clearing site data in your browser.
Email. If you write to us, we receive your address and your message. Mail to virylo.net is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to our mailbox hosted by Google. We use your message only to answer you and keep it as long as needed for that, up to two years. Legal basis: legitimate interest, or your consent when you send us a correction or a tip.
Newsletter. If you subscribe to our weekly email, we store your email address, the language you chose, the date you subscribed and whether you confirmed. You confirm by clicking a link in the first email (double opt-in). Our email service also records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so we know which stories readers find useful. We use your address only to send the newsletter and never sell or share it. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email, and we stop sending at once. To have your address deleted completely, write to [email protected]. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
Cookies
We do not set cookies for readers. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie (for example __cf_bm or cf_clearance) when it checks that a visitor is not a bot. These cookies are strictly necessary and contain no profile of you. Editors who sign in to the site get WordPress login cookies.
If we add advertising, our ad partners may use cookies. Before that happens we will update this page and, in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, ask for your consent through a consent banner first.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA): content delivery, security, analytics, email forwarding.
- OVH (server in Canada): hosting.
- Google (USA): our mailbox.
- Kit (ConvertKit LLC, USA): our weekly newsletter.
Canada has an EU adequacy decision. Transfers to the USA rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. We do not sell your data and do not share it with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR you can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction, objection to processing and data portability. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within one month. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
California and other US state residents: we do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.
Children
Virylo is not aimed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We will post any change on this page with a new date. If a change is important, such as adding advertising, we will also say so on the site.
