Gears of War turns 20 with a free RAAM for E-Day players and a Legacy season on December 1

The villain of the very first Gears of War is coming back as a birthday present. To mark the series’ 20th anniversary on November 7, The Coalition is giving every Gears of War: E-Day player General RAAM as a free multiplayer character: log in and he is unlocked.
Nicole Fawcette, the studio’s brand director, opened her anniversary post on Xbox Wire with a reminder of where it all started:
It’s hard to believe that 20 years ago, Gears of War launched on Xbox 360 and introduced the world to Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, and the genius of putting a chainsaw on a gun.

The free character is part of a two-week anniversary event that began this week. Versus gets Guardian, a mode in which only one leader makes it out of the round alive, while Horde Siege adds For the Queen, which switches off the supply cache and leaves squads with whatever loadouts they brought.
The bigger drop lands on December 1, when Season 2, called Legacy, brings back maps, modes and multiplayer skins from across the series. One of the new skins, Solemn Memories Dom, dresses Dominic Santiago in the suit from his famous photo with Maria in Gears of War 2, a deep cut aimed squarely at long-time fans.

E-Day, the origin story set 14 years before the original game, is out on Xbox and PC; Steam lists its October 6 release and a $69.99 price. Which maps and modes Legacy will bring back, The Coalition hasn’t listed yet.
