A NieR:Automata language patch turns the PC game into a 366GB install by mistake

A patch meant to add three languages to NieR:Automata on PC has made the game a 366GB download, roughly seven times the 50 GB its Steam page still lists. Square Enix has acknowledged the problem and says it is working on a fix.
The update arrived on Nov. 6 Japan time and added Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean. According to IGN, a bug packed a full copy of the game into each of the DLC items that come with the PC version, so the install multiplied instead of growing by a few gigabytes. Steam reviews soured fast, with players complaining they would have to clear out half a drive just to keep playing.
Until the corrected update lands, Square Enix’s advice is to open the game’s Properties in Steam, go to the DLC section and untick every DLC item. The base game then downloads at its intended size. A rare case where switching content off is the official way to play.
The publisher has not said when the fix will be ready.
