Škoda now gives owners free files to 3D-print their own car accessories

Most carmakers sell you the cup-holder insert. Škoda now hands over the file and lets you print it yourself, in whatever colour you like, for nothing more than the cost of running your own 3D printer.
The range is called Printly Clever, a nod to the brand’s long-running Simply Clever gadgets, and it sits on Škoda’s profile on the Printables platform. The company calls itself the first carmaker to offer an extensive set of accessories for home printing, and the print files are free.
Some pieces are universal and work in older Škodas too: a cable holder for the seat-back pockets, a frame that stops a phone sliding around a cubby, a coin tray for the cup holder and a hook that clips onto an unused Top Tether anchor behind the rear seats. According to Iveta Stejskalová from Škoda’s innovation incubator, several of them also fit other Volkswagen Group cars.

Others are cut for specific models: centre console organisers for the Epiq, Peaq and Fabia, an insert for the Epiq’s Jumbo Box between the front seats, and clips that add function to the Peaq’s folding table. Most use existing storage spaces, so nothing in the car has to be modified.
Škoda has run its own 3D printing workshop since 1997, mostly for development parts, and it printed respirators during the pandemic. For owners, the appeal is simpler: no waiting for a dealer to order a plastic tray. Stejskalová says some items came from community requests and that the catalogue will keep growing.
