Porsche’s next infotainment brings a 3D car you can tap and an LLM voice assistant

Porsche’s screens have been quick to look at and slower to use. The company’s next infotainment generation, coming to new 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne cars, is built to fix the second half of that sentence.
The headline number is the hardware. A new system-on-chip has up to five times the computing power of the outgoing unit, which Porsche says means quicker start-ups, shorter loading times and apps that stay alive in the background when you switch between them. Auto Express notes that it is the same kind of single-chip design phones use, and over-the-air updates should keep adding features after delivery.

The look comes from the Cayenne Electric. Called Porsche Digital Interaction, it centres on a 3D model of your car, shown in its real paint colour, which you can rotate and tap to reach vehicle settings. There are five themes and configurable widgets on top.
Voice Pilot is now based on a large language model, so it should cope with natural phrasing, requests with several steps and follow-up questions for navigation, media, apps and some car functions. Navigation Plus gets a 3D map, and in electric models the Charging Planner accounts for battery preconditioning. Apple Music arrives through the Porsche App Center for the first time, with Dolby Atmos on Bose and Burmester sound systems, though it needs a subscription and is limited to selected markets.
A faster chip is the upgrade owners will notice most, because no theme fixes a laggy menu. Porsche says the system will be phased into newly built cars, with timing that depends on market, model and equipment, and it has not said whether existing cars can be upgraded.
