The iPhone Duo already has over 100,000 apps made for its folding screen, Apple says

Two weeks into sales, Apple has an answer for anyone worried that a foldable iPhone would mean stretched-out phone apps: the number of apps reworked for the iPhone Duo’s inner screen has already reached six figures.

Today there are well over 100,000 apps built for iPhone Duo already live on the App Store, and thousands of optimized apps are being added to the store each day.

Susan Prescott, vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, Apple

Recent arrivals on Apple’s list, as GSMArena reports, include Microsoft’s Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, plus Netflix, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, Zoom, Prime Video, Goodnotes, Flighty and the NBA, NHL and MLB apps. In the App Store, updated apps show a Made for iPhone Duo label, the quickest way to tell whether one will use the whole inner display.

That display is why the count matters. Apple says it is 50% larger than the screen of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Split View puts two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time. Both screens share one aspect ratio, so an app keeps its place when the phone is opened. Apps built from standard SwiftUI and UIKit parts adapt on their own, while apps that haven’t been updated still open, just without using all of the larger screen.

Apple has also been nudging developers in person, with more than 50 workshops in 19 cities over the past month and over 2,000 developers attending, according to the company. On a phone that starts at $1,999, a badge on 100,000 apps is a real selling point, even if it covers only a small slice of the App Store.

The badge is not a promise of polish, though. As The Verge notes, Instagram looked messy on the Duo at launch despite carrying the label, and Instagram chief Adam Mosseri called the device a “bit of a tricky form factor.” GSMArena points out that Google Maps caught up only recently. Apple has not said which big names are still missing.
