GOG Galaxy is finally coming to Linux, with a rebuilt client planned for 2027

Linux players have waited years for this one. GOG, the DRM-free PC game store, has confirmed that its Galaxy launcher is officially on its way to Linux. The news came during the first GOG Showcase, a stream the company held to mark its 18th anniversary.
Linux is not the only change. GOG says it has reworked Galaxy on Windows and Mac as well, promising a simpler and faster app with tidier ways to browse a game library. The anniversary page groups the new launcher under plans for 2027, describes it as faster, fully customizable and built around a modern interface, and invites players to join a beta waitlist.
Long-requested, still optional
Demand is not in doubt. On GOG’s own community wishlist, the request to release Galaxy for Linux leads the Galaxy list with 44,704 votes. Until now, Linux users who buy on GOG have managed their libraries with third-party tools such as Heroic Games Launcher or Lutris, as ComputerBase points out.
GOG stresses that Galaxy will stay entirely optional: every game can still be downloaded with offline installers and kept without the launcher. What the company has not explained yet is which Linux distributions will be supported, whether cloud saves and achievements will work from day one, or how Windows-only games will run. No firm release date was given either.

- Preservation: Nox joins the GOG Preservation Program, which GOG says has delivered more than 1,700 fixes for over 300 classics with help from 10,000+ GOG Patrons in 100 countries.
- Wing Commander: the restored anniversary editions, including Wing Commander: Prophecy, are free for anyone who already owns those games on GOG.
