Netflix’s second trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth stops teasing and gets to the point: a TV star wants Brad Pitt’s former stuntman not for his stunts, but because Cliff has actually killed people. The red band cut went online after first running in cinemas ahead of the IMAX re-release of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, What’s on Netflix reports.

The neatest moment is a joke at the film’s own expense. Asked what the two men were discussing, Cliff makes up a pitch for a TV show about a famous actor who gets mixed up with gangsters and the stunt double who has to bail him out. That is, more or less, the movie.

The story picks up in 1977, eight years after Cliff’s run-in with the Manson family in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film. Tarantino wrote the new script and David Fincher directed it. According to Netflix, Cliff now pays the bills by tending bar and running a projector, and works as a fixer on the side. A call from agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki) leads him to her client Charlie Peters (Scott Caan), a TV star who does his own stunts.

Carla Gugino plays Charlie’s wife Toni, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is football champion turned actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, and Matt Groove and JB Tadena play the Verdusco brothers, a pair of gangsters causing trouble across Los Angeles. Peter Weller is in the cast too. Netflix lists the running time at 2 hours 23 minutes.

That is a lot of cinema for a streaming film: the first trailer also debuted on the big screen before it reached YouTube. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth opens in IMAX on Nov. 25 for an exclusive two-week run and arrives on Netflix on Dec. 23.
