Lionsgate’s animated John Wick film moves ahead, with Keanu Reeves voicing the hitman

Keanu Reeves will voice John Wick again. His deal for Lionsgate’s animated film is done and the studio has approved the project, Deadline and Variety reported on November 5. Deadline adds that Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, speaking after the company’s quarterly results, said it is now in preproduction.
What the story covers
The plot takes place before the first movie and centers on the Impossible Task, which Variety describes as wiping out every rival in a single night. Pulling it off is Wick’s way out of his debt to the High Table and his route to a life with Helen.
The team
- Shannon Tindle directs. His credits include Ultraman: Rising and Kubo and the Two Strings.
- Ryan and Kaz Firpo wrote the script.
- Reeves is also a producer, alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road and Chad Stahelski of 87Eleven Entertainment. Point Grey has joined them.
Where it fits in the series
The film itself is not new: Lionsgate film chief Adam Fogelson first announced it at CinemaCon in 2025, saying that “the possibilities are endless” for the character in animation. According to Variety, the five movies so far, Ballerina included, have earned more than $1 billion worldwide, and two more live-action projects are in development: a fifth main film and a standalone story about Caine, the blind assassin played by Donnie Yen. Neither report gives a release date for the animated film.
